Cranberry, cinnamon and orange scones.

Filling the kitchen with wonderful festive scent as I finish writing my Christmas cards, these easy delicious little scones will get you into the spirit of the season.           Makes 12.

Cranberry, cinnamon and orange scones

  • 250g self raising flour
  • half a teaspoon baking powder
  • half a teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 55g butter
  • 25g caster sugar
  • 75g dried cranberries
  • the zest of 1 orange
  • 150 ml milk

Put the oven on 180c fan. Put the flour, baking powder and cinnamon into your blender with the butter and mix to breadcrumb consistency. (If you don’t  have a blender rub the butter into the mix until you have made ‘breadcrumbs’). Add the sugar, cranberries and orange zest and mix again. Then add the milk, a little at a time, and blend until you have a soft dough ball.

Rolling out scone dough

On a floured work surface roll out the dough (approximately 1″ thick) and cut into 12 circles. Glaze with a little milk and bake in the hot oven for 10 – 15 minutes.

There is something about zesting an orange that fills you with joy. Enjoy with a nice cup of tea, and maybe some thickened double cream flavoured with orange!
