A delicious tea time treat!
I love cheese scones and can always find room for one. Really quick to make, 15 minutes. Warm from the oven with cup of tea (or a bowl of soup), home made heaven!
Put your oven on 210c degrees. Take 8 ounces of self raising flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, some salt and pepper, 1 teaspoon of mustard powder, half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Whizz up in your mixer. Then add 2 ounces of butter – whizz until everything is just combined. Add 4 ounces of grated mature cheddar cheese – briefly whizz to mix everything. Add 5 fluid ounces of milk and mix til it all comes together.
Roll out on a floured board to approximately 1 inch thick, using a 2.5 inch cutter. This will give you 7 delicious scones. Brush with a little milk and sprinkle a few cheese gratings on top.
Bake in a hot oven, 210 degrees, til gorgeously golden brown (approx 10 minutes). Remove from the oven to a wire rack to cool for a bit. Seriously delicious!
